If your PrestaShop store sells online to consumers in the EU, the withdrawal button has been mandatory since 19 June 2026 (Directive (EU) 2023/2673, harmonised across the 27 EU member states). Why PrestaShop does not provide it
PrestaShop may well be French in origin, but it is a general-purpose e-commerce software distributed worldwide. It does not include a native feature dedicated to the withdrawal button obligation: bringing your store into compliance is down to you as the merchant.
BackToMe collects the withdrawal request, acknowledges receipt with an email your customer keeps and archives it, dated and impossible to alter afterwards: proof that holds up (before a judge or the CCPC). The button appears across all your pages (product pages, cart, customer account, checkout), as EU rules require.
Two ways to install it
Injection module (no file)
Install a code-injection module ('Custom HTML' / 'Code Injection'), then paste the BackToMe tag into its header field. No file changed, but check that it is compatible with your version: free modules do not always keep up with PrestaShop 8 and 9.
head.tpl file (reliable)
Over FTP/SFTP, edit themes/[theme]/templates/_partials/head.tpl and paste the tag just before </head>. Then clear the cache (see below).
The two PrestaShop pitfalls to know
Always clear the cache
PrestaShop aggressively caches the compiled templates. Until you clear the cache, the tag is not injected, even if the file is correct. Advanced Parameters > Performance > 'Clear cache'. This is the number one cause of an invisible button.
1.6 and 1.7 to 9: different paths
On PrestaShop 1.6 (legacy), the file is themes/[theme]/header.tpl ; on 1.7, 8 and 9, it is themes/[theme]/templates/_partials/head.tpl. If you are on 1.6, its security support has ended: migration is recommended.

The risk if you do nothing
Since 19 June 2026, the withdrawal button has been mandatory across the whole EU. Without a compliant mechanism, a B2C PrestaShop store is exposed to two cumulative risks: a penalty from the regulator in the buyer's country (in Ireland, the administrative fine (CCPC) of up to 60 000 € under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, and up to 4% of turnover or 2 000 000 € for widespread infringements) and the extension of the withdrawal period to 12 months and 14 days for poorly informed customers.
A customer can then cancel an order up to a year after the purchase and obtain a full refund. The potential cost quickly exceeds that of getting compliant.
