Anis Mokadym, Fondateur de BackToMe
“I built BackToMe to make withdrawal simple, without it stopping at France’s borders. One button, the proof that comes with it, and each customer’s national law applied automatically, everywhere in the European Union.”

27 jurisdictions · 24 languages

Each customer’s law, applied on its own.

It’s the customer’s country that sets the applicable law, not yours. BackToMe detects the country, applies the right law and replies in the right language, with no setup on your side.

One single European lawFranceGermanyItalySpainNetherlands+ 22 other EU countries

The right law, automatically

The customer’s country is detected on each request, and both the deadline and the legal notice follow their jurisdiction. A customer outside the EU is handled cleanly, never blocked.

The right language, effortlessly

Button, form and acknowledgement appear in the customer’s language, among the 24 official EU languages. You, meanwhile, manage everything from a single dashboard.

A withdrawal, step by step

Here’s exactly what happens
when a customer withdraws.

Three steps, from the customer’s click to the proof archived in your dashboard. Everything is automatic. You only step in at the end, to decide.

01Step 1/3

The customer clicks and submits their request.

The button floats in the corner you chose. The customer clicks, a window opens in their language. They fill in name, email and reference (order, subscription, contract or invoice). No redirect, no account to create.

02Step 2/3

The request is recorded, the acknowledgement sent.

BackToMe records it with its exact date, impossible to alter afterwards and stored in Europe: solid proof for a dispute or an audit. The customer immediately receives a confirmation email in their language, which they keep as a receipt.

03Step 3/3

You’re notified, you follow the case.

The withdrawal appears in your dashboard with the status “To handle”. You follow it through to “Closed”, with internal notes the customer never sees. The timestamped receipt (PDF) can be downloaded at any time. BackToMe centralises the case; you keep the decision.

Étape 1 sur 3 : The customer clicks and submits their request.

Proof, not just a button

A free form doesn’t make proof.

It collects the request, but neither timestamps nor seals it. The day a dispute arises, there’s nothing enforceable to show.

What’s at stake

What you risk without a compliant button.

Since 19 June 2026, the compliant button has been mandatory for distance selling to consumers. Without it, two consequences.

Administrative fine

up to€75,000in France

In France, a company in breach risks up to €75,000 in fines. Each EU country sets its own scale.

Without a compliant button, the cancellation period extends on its own from 14 days to over a year: your customers can get refunds on orders that are twelve months old.

Pricing

Frequently asked questions

9 answers to the essential questions.

For billing questions, see the pricing page. For the full legal context (European obligation, transposition by country, penalties, exceptions), read the complete guide to the withdrawal button or check the blog.

I don’t have a compliant button yet: what are the risks today?

The obligation has been in force since 19 June 2026: without a compliant button, you’re already exposed. Two consequences. On one hand, you risk a fine, up to €75,000 for a company in France, according to a scale specific to each EU country. On the other, your customers’ cancellation period extends on its own from 14 days to over a year, everywhere in the EU: they can then ask for refunds on orders a year old. No inspection is needed for this to apply. Details of penalties and exceptions in the complete guide to the withdrawal button.

Isn’t the button only for financial products?

No, that’s a very common misconception. The European obligation (Directive (EU) 2023/2673, transposed in France by Article L.221-21) covers any online sale to consumers, whatever the sector: fashion, cosmetics, tech, food, SaaS, training, crafts, dropshipping and more. Financial services, by contrast, fall under a separate regime, and that’s where the confusion comes from. If you sell goods or services online to consumers, you’re concerned, even if you sell nothing financial.

Is a withdrawal link at the bottom of the page enough?

No, and it’s the most common trap. European Directive (EU) 2023/2673 requires a withdrawal function that is easy to find, permanently visible and directly accessible, including for a customer who ordered without creating an account. A simple link in the footer, buried in your terms or hidden behind a “My account” area doesn’t tick the box. The label must be clear (“Withdraw from this contract here”) and the button accessible when the customer manages their order. A floating button present on all your pages is the simplest way to be compliant.

What if my customers abuse the button to get refunds?

The right to cancel already existed: the button creates no new right, it only makes exercising it visible and tracked. That’s exactly where BackToMe protects you: every request is dated and impossible to alter, so a customer can neither invent a request nor fake its date. You keep the right to inspect the returned product and to reduce the refund if the customer damaged it. The proof works for you as much as for the customer.

Abuse, performance, script: all the answers

Will BackToMe slow my site down?

No. The tag loads asynchronously: it never blocks your page from displaying. It’s a single script in native JavaScript, with no dependency or framework, served and cached via a CDN. The impact on your site’s speed and on your Core Web Vitals is negligible.

Performance and script in detail

Why pay, when I can add a simple form myself?

A home-made form knows how to receive a request. It doesn’t know how to turn it into proof. The day of a dispute or an audit, what matters is not having received the request, it’s being able to prove, without anyone being able to contest it, that it arrived on a given date and hasn’t changed since. BackToMe records each request with its date, in a way that no one, not even us, can alter afterwards, sends the acknowledgement required by law, monitors that the button stays in place on your site and follows regulatory changes. Building and maintaining all this yourself costs far more than €25 a month.

Compare with in-house development

Do I need a bank card to start the free trial?

Yes, you register a card to start the 7-day trial, but €0 is charged today. That’s what activates your button at full legal value straight away, without waiting. You can cancel in one click at any time: on day 7, the subscription (€25 excl. VAT/month per site) only starts if you haven’t cancelled, and the button then stays online without interruption. And even after the first payment, you’re covered by the 30-day money-back guarantee: no risk in trying.

My CMS isn’t on the list, does it still work?

If your site lets you insert a line of JavaScript in the <head> tag, then yes, which is the case for almost every platform (CMS, builders, frameworks, custom sites). If you don’t install it yourself, BackToMe offers a “Send to my developer” button in Settings → Installation, which forwards the tag, the step-by-step instructions and the CMS guide links to your dev or your agency in one click. To confirm compatibility before paying, write to the team stating your stack.

I sell in France and in other EU countries, do I have to manage several buttons?

A single button is enough. It’s the same European obligation in all 27 EU countries, and every European customer has the same right to cancel within 14 days. The BackToMe button displays in each customer’s language (24 EU languages) and automatically applies their country’s law: French law for a customer in France, local law for the others. A single installation covers all your sales in Europe, with nothing to configure.

Everything included

The button is only the visible part.

Four turnkey building blocks, from the customer’s click to managing all your sites. No support desk, no CRM: just what you need to be compliant.
