Installation guide

2 min · Easy

Install BackToMe on Squarespace.

Follow the path for Squarespace, paste your tag and then check its detection. Add the tag via Settings > Advanced > Code Injection > Header.

Installation

Before copying the tag.

Check the required access, then use the location shown for your platform.

Prerequisites

  • A Squarespace Business subscription at minimum (the Personal plan does not allow Code Injection)
  • The Commerce Basic and Commerce Advanced plans also include Code Injection
  • Owner or Administrator rights on the shop

Location in Squarespace

In Settings > Advanced > Code Injection > Header, on Squarespace 7.1 (the current version)

  1. 01Home Menu > Settings (gear icon)
  2. 02Advanced > Code Injection
  3. 03In the Header field, paste the tag
  4. 04Save (button, top right)
  5. 05The tag is active immediately, no need to republish

Copy your BackToMe tag

Replace YOUR_ID with the shop identifier shown in your account.

Save and publish

The change must be published on the version your customers actually see.

Tag to copy into the <head>

<script async src="https://backtome.fr/widget.js" data-site="YOUR_ID"></script>

Over time

What removes the button from a Squarespace shop

An update or theme change can remove a script that worked until then.

  • Going back to the Personal plan: code injection is not available there.
  • A 7.0 to 7.1 migration, which starts again from a fresh shop whose code injection is empty.
  • AMP enabled on pages, where injected code is not carried over.

BackToMe tracks the last signal received

The dashboard shows the tag’s last detection. If the button disappears, you have a precise starting point for checking the shop.

Verification

Check the published shop.

Do not stop at the editor’s confirmation. Open the public site and check what is actually loaded.

Expected result

The status changes to Detected in BackToMe and the button appears on the public shop.

  1. 01Open a private window.
  2. 02Load a public page of the shop.
  3. 03Check the button position and label.
  4. 04Open the form without submitting a real request.

After the click

Every request joins a verifiable case.

BackToMe records the request, sends the acknowledgement and keeps the information needed for tracking. The certificate states exactly what can be checked.

Troubleshooting

The most common blockers.

Every answer can be closed and used from the keyboard.
Personal plan: Code Injection unavailable
If you do not see the Code Injection option under Advanced, check your plan in Billing & Account. Squarespace reserves this feature for the Business plan and above (Commerce Basic / Advanced include it too). The Personal plan and the trial period do not allow you to publish Code Injection: without a compatible paid subscription, BackToMe cannot be installed.
Squarespace 7.0 vs 7.1: a different interface
If your shop was created before 2020, you may still be on Squarespace 7.0 (the older version). The Settings > Advanced > Code Injection path still applies, but the admin looks different. Squarespace does not migrate automatically to 7.1; the two versions coexist.
AMP can interfere
If you have enabled AMP for blog posts (Settings > Marketing > AMP), AMP pages do not include custom code by default, for performance reasons. The button will therefore be absent from the AMP versions of your blog. For compliance, disable AMP or accept that withdrawals go only through the standard pages.
The button does not appear after publishing
Open the Squarespace shop in a private window. Then check the published theme, tag identifier and its position in the head.
The status remains Not detected
The tag reports when a public page loads it. Visit the published shop in a private window, then refresh the status in BackToMe.
The form does not open
Test without browser extensions. Also check the CSP policy and any tool that blocks third-party scripts.
Can I give the installation to my developer?
Yes. Send them the tag and this guide. They do not need access to your account to add the line to the site.
